Investigating..........

I found a couple of sites that told histories of nursery rhymes - but no mention of "shoo, fly..." I really don't want to go by the Wikipedia entry as my sole source, either - just because.

Shoo, fly

I've been contemplating nursery rhymes, lately. We have a couple of childrens' CD's and while I enjoy relearning some of these old songs, I think I need to do some historical checking. I say that because some of them don't make sense.

"Shoo, fly, don't bother me; cause I belong to somebody."

I don't get it. Later on in the song it says "I feel like a morning star"

What's that all about - what does it mean to feel like a morning star?!

I know that some nursery rhymes have quite dreadful histories - like "ring-around-the-rosie"

If anyone knows the mystery behind this song, I'd be quite happy to hear it - otherwise, I'm going to have to do some investigating on my own.

Mommy's socks

Matthew knows where socks go; he loves to take them off and wildly fling them in his hands. Well, last night he found my "house" socks and brought them to me - and laid them on my feet. Grandam decided to put them on MTE. He wasn't bothered by them in the least once they were on --------- how he will hate us someday ;o)
